New collaboration aims to increase the representation of Indigenous Australians in technology

By Revolent Group

Company News: Cloud talent creation specialists Revolent Group team up with PwC’s Indigenous Consulting, AIME and Salesforce to provide new career opportunities for Indigenous Australians

Cloud talent providers and cross-training experts Revolent Group has announced a new initiative with Salesforce, AIME and PwC’s Indigenous Consulting, that aims to increase the representation of Indigenous Australians in the technology industry.

The Indigenous Tech Academy will provide 16 young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders with access to Revolent’s careers development program, training them to become Salesforce professionals over a one-year learning and development journey. During this time, they will work with Salesforce, AIME and PwC’s Indigenous Consulting as part of its team, helping its clients and providing students with demonstrable real-world experience working on Salesforce projects to kick start their careers.

“There’s no doubt that the opportunities a career in the Salesforce ecosystem provides can be quite literally life-changing but we need to make sure this is an opportunity that is accessible to all,” said Nabila Salem, President of Revolent Group. “Through The Indigenous Training Academy, we will provide a fully supported career journey to allow Indigenous people all across Australia to start their career in Salesforce and reap the benefits this brings”

“Making opportunities in tech accessible to everyone is a huge part of our mission," said Revolent Chairman and CEO James Lloyd-Townshend. "We hope this collaboration inspires other cloud training providers and businesses to work together to deliver meaningful change for underrepresented communities that need it the most”

“It's been a genuine pleasure watching this program develop from an idea into a tangible initiative that will help young people gain in-demand skills, get work experience with some fantastic organizations, and seize the opportunity to develop a rewarding and lucrative career in the cloud.”

Gavin Brown, CEO of PwC’s Indigenous Consulting, said “Australia’s first nations people are some of the world’s oldest technologists and have shaped the world around us. But when it comes to the tech landscape today, we just don’t see them represented. The Indigenous Tech Academy is designed to address this and to ensure a meaningful and long-lasting change in the lives of people from Indigenous groups and their communities.”

Jack Manning Bancroft, the CEO of AIME, noted, “If we are truly going to expand the possibilities for Indigenous people in Australia, we must role model an expansion of what's possible and open up accelerated pathways via a global network for Indigenous youngsters to be a part of, and lead from the front, in order to design solutions that can help fix the biggest problems of our planet today and tomorrow. The Indigenous Tech Academy, the built-in alliance with other amazing organisations, allows us to do exactly that and more”

Charles Woodall, Senior Vice President of Alliances and Channel Sales APAC, Salesforce added “The Indigenous Tech Academy is a great new pathway for Indigenous Australians to gain the skills needed for a career in technology. We are committed to supporting the creation of new pathways and increasing Indigenous representation in the Salesforce ecosystem and in the technology industry more widely.”

The Indigenous Tech Academy is exclusively designed for young adults from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background who are looking to start their careers in the Salesforce ecosystem. No previous industry experience or degree is needed, and high school students are encouraged to apply. The program is completely free of charge to take part in, with successful applicants paid throughout their training and placement. The Academy will welcome its first cohort of students in January 2022.
