Powered by Intel’s latest Core Ultra (Series 2) Lunar Lake processor, the Ultra Flip 14 features a 14-inch OLED display with a 2,880 x 1,800 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR compatibility. The vibrant display is suitable for both work and media, though reflections can be an issue. As a convertible, it functions comfortably as a tablet and laptop, with a responsive touchscreen that supports multi-touch gestures, though the stylus is sold separately.
Built with a sleek-and-sturdy 'Eclipse Grey' chassis, the OmniBook is slightly smaller and thinner than its predecessor, but it still looks just as classy. The low-travel keyboard is comfortable for extended typing, avoiding the typical stiffness of many convertible keyboards, while the large, haptic-feedback trackpad is precise but hypersensitive.
The OmniBook is equipped with a strong 1,440p webcam featuring HP’s ring-light app, which creates adjustable, web-conference-friendly, lighting effects on the screen. This, combined with clear audio from the integrated microphones, makes it a solid option for video calls and streaming. The laptop also supports Windows Hello with both facial recognition and fingerprint login options.
In terms of performance, the Lunar Lake CPU, with its updated CPU, NPU and Intel Arc graphics, enables Ai-related tasks like Microsoft’s CoPilot+. Flanked by 32GB of RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD, the processors score well on general computing tests and offer reasonable, though limited, gaming capabilities. It managed playable frame rates in casual games and lower-demand scenarios, though intense titles require significant dropping of settings.
Battery life is another strong point, with the OmniBook lasting over 19 hours in tests. However, the absence of USB-A ports may limit connectivity for some. It does support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, though.
Priced at $3,699, the OmniBook faces tough competition, notably from the Asus ZenBook S 14, which offers slightly better battery life and a stylus included. However, HP’s additional features, including Wolf Security and Ai Companion (an offline version of ChatGPT 4o), can tip it over the edge for some users. Ultimately, while it may not dethrone Asus’s top model, the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 remains a great choice and earns itself a Highly Recommended Award. Overall Score: 4.5 / 5
