In line with the theme of Only One Earth on World Environment Day last 5 June, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Huawei hosted an online summit to demonstrate how technologies can improve nature conservation outcomes, unveiling innovations that can bolster environmental protection.
“All sectors of society should work together within an open and collaborative market environment to apply technological innovations to industries and transform new technologies into solutions and services that can help build a green planet,” said Huawei director of the board and director of corporate sustainable development committee Tao Jingwen.
Huawei claims to promote green advocacies in companies that support global zero-carbon journey.

On energy, Huawei says it has integrated power electronics and digital technologies to accelerate the development of renewable energy.
Huawei will continue to innovate energy-saving technologies to improve efficiencies in IT infrastructure to reduce emissions in industries.
IUCN and Huawei have a history of working on green initiatives. In 2020, both launched the global Tech4Nature project and have initiated pilot projects based on IUCN Green List Standard in Switzerland, Spain, China, Mexico, and Mauritius.
According to Mobile World Live, underwater cameras with special lenses and sensors have been deployed in Mauritius to monitor its coral reefs. Data is captured and then coursed through a 4G network and analysed using artificial-intelligence systems.
