McAfee launches Windows 8 and Server 2012 security range

By

Although some competitors such as Symantec have already announced Windows 8 compatibility, it should come as no surprise to see other security software makers, like McAfee, now announcing security suites to suit the soon-to-arrive Windows reboot that is Microsoft Windows 8.

Windows 8 is officially arriving on October 26, despite lucky MSDN and TechNet users having had Windows 8 access since August 15, and as you can expect, Windows 8-related announcements are starting to arrive.

The latest company to announce Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 readiness and compatibility is the Intel-owned McAfee, which not only now works closely with Intel to deliver security at an ever-deeper hardware level, but also has its traditional range of enterprise and consumer security products.

McAfee says its security products have been “improved to offer comprehensive protection against new and evolving threats for consumers and businesses updating to the latest platforms.”

Simon Hunt, McAfee’s VP and CTO of “endpoint security” said in a statement that: “Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 are products that continue to push the computing industry forward with an extensive array of new features, as well as new security and performance enhancements. Our developers have been working with Microsoft to offer consumers and enterprises the tools necessary for protection against all threat vectors and against data loss.”

As McAfee’s announcement states, its enterprise and SMB products now support Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, with McAfee stating that “organisations of all sizes can feel confident that they are using a comprehensive, multilayer security system that offers strong protection against known and unknown threats.”

McAfee’s consumer range also gets the Windows 8 go ahead, and not only promises that its products help Windows 8 users “be more secure”, but that “consumers with an active subscription to McAfee products with default settings intact will automatically be updated to Windows 8-compatible versions”.

The company also says that customers “downloading the product from the web or installing from the CD will automatically receive the latest version compatible with Windows 8.”
