Stage one of Aussie Broadband's fibre network development consists of a 20Km loop around Melbourne's CBD and Port Melbourne.
Work has already commenced, and is expected to be completed by the end of July 2020.
"The purpose of this project is to transition our connectivity to NBN points of interconnect onto our own fibre network," said managing director Phillip Britt.

"This will provide additional benefits such as faster capacity upgrades, improved redundancy, and the opportunity to develop new products."
The locally manufactured 720-core fibre cable will provide fully diverse paths to the Exhibition and Port Melbourne NBN points of interconnect, as well as key data centres including Interactive, NextDC M1, Equinix ME1, and two at 530 Collins Street (the ASX building).
With the broader project "we plan to build fully diverse routes to over 75 NBN points of interconnect and 24 key data centres across Australia," Britt said.
"We'll soon be recruiting for a head of construction to help deliver our bigger project."
Aussie Broadband has doubled its customer base in 14 months, and is preparing to list on the Australia Securities Exchange later this year.
