Barely two days into 2012 and the first report of an upcoming Apple event had arrived, mysteriously heralding not an iPad 3 nor possibly any iPhone 5, but instead a 'media related' announcement.
Sony in the US has dropped its Android 3.x Honeycomb-powered Tablet S prices by US $100, but haven't committed to doing so in Australia - despite next week's CES and a plethora of new Android 4.0 tablets to come.
It's 2012, the year the iPad 3 is due to arrive, with a 'Retina Display' class screen and Siri's dulcet tones, possibly on Steve Jobs' birthday, possibly in 9.7-inch and 7.85-inch sizes and hopefully much better cameras.
With just hours to go before 2012 arrives on Australian shores, it's time for a little look into the tech we know is soon coming, while we wonder what unexpected new tech hits will surely come!
A pic of what appears to be an odd-looking iPhone with volume, mute and front-facing camera on the wrong side, along with a warped-looking screen and rounder edges'¦ faaaake?
With the world and his dog impatiently waiting for Android tablet makers to realise that pricing Android tablets at the same price as an iPad 2 is no way to win friends and influence non-iPad buyers, Apple is reportedly getting ready to strike back with cheaper pricing of its own.
Whether it's the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5 or the iPhone Something Else Altogether, the latest batch of swirling rumours still suggest that the month of September is the launch month to remember.
August or September, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5'¦ bigger screen, faster processor, more storage, iPad 3, MacBook Air, 3G iPod Touch'¦ all sound good, but how much of it is real?
Would Apple truly release an iPad 3 in September, 6 months after launching the iPad 2, which if accurate would probably rank as the fastest new product launch ever?
With the iPad 2 only hours away from international launch in much of the world, the anti-iPad crowd has revved up with talk of the iPad 3, but is a 2011 release date really realistic?
The question of whether the iPad 2 will feature a 1024x768 resolution screen as it does now, or will it a Retina-esque 2048x1536 res screen instead is consuming the blogosphere, with some believing you won't see the higher-res screen until the iPad 3!
As predicted by all and sundry, Verizon has finally been granted access to the iPhone 4, but questions still remain.
With the iPad copying the iPhone through the use of an oleophobic screen that still is sadly not impervious to fingerprints, is Apple on the verge of delivering a much more smudge proof solution which some say is similar to that from Amazon's Kindle?
So much is still not known about the iPad 2, but plenty is being guessed at by the world's iPrognosticators, all of whom have specific things they want to see, but whether Steve Jobs will let them be is still an unknown unknown.
OK, Apple, the iPad 2 ball is in your court, but in the court of public opinion, which Apple doesn't always seem to court, it would be curt of us not to mention that without all of these features, the expectations of at least some could be caught short!
