Australian content streaming service Switch Media is planning to expand into Asian markets and has appointed 20-year ICT industry veteran Oscar Gutierrez to a new role as vice-president of business development to spearhead the expansion.

Gutierrez has previously held senior positions with Vimond Media Solutions as vice-president of Business Development and Aspiro as Senior Business Development Manager. He also worked with British Telecom and Fractus.

Switch Media says Gutierrez brings 20 years business development experience for OTT technology providers in the Asian, Latin American, European and the Middle Eastern markets.

Gutierrez will be based in Singapore.

According to Switch Media, Gutierrez will spearhead Switch Media's Asia Pacific business when the region's demand for content delivery to digital devices is growing at an extraordinary pace.

Switch Media's expansion into Asia Pacific as part of its global expansion strategy comes as new data on the area's current streaming landscape highlights the region's growth opportunities in an extremely active video space.

The firm cites research by Media Partners Asia that the online video market in the Asia Pacific region is set to more than double from US$21 billion in 2018 to US$48 billion by 2023.

Gutierrez will also support Switch Media’s business development activities in other markets, drawing on his previous business development experience for OTT technology providers in the Asian, Latin American, European and the Middle Eastern markets.
