Thuraya satphone adaptor recalled

By

The mains adaptors supplied with two Thuraya satellite phone models has been recalled due to an electrical safety risk.

The Thuraya KSAS0100500200D5 AC adaptor supplied with the Thuraya SatSleeve+ and Thuraya SatSleeve Hotspot satellite phones has been recalled as a defect may cause the insulated pin to crack, giving rise to a risk of electric shock or electrocution causing injury or death, according to the ACCC.

The phones were sold nationally by Pivotel and its more than 150 dealers around the country between 1 January 2014 and 29 July 2021.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the adaptor and contact Pivotel Satellite to register for a replacement. Replacements are expected to be available in November 2021. Pivotel will also provide a pre-paid bag for return of the old adaptor," according to the recall notice.

Registration can be done online here or by calling the company on 1300 882 448.

According to Pivotel the "insulated pin may crack when dropped or if subjected to impact in very cold temperatures (below freezing)".

Note that the phones themselves are not being recalled, just the AC adaptor.
