Dating with vouchers okay!

By

Australians out on a date, even a romantic dinner, are apparently not turned off by their suitor using a group buying voucher on a meal or activity, and quite a few of them say they prefer a pizza and wine deal than a more expensive fine dining option.

At least, that's according to a survey of its 2,256 members by Australian group buying company, LivingSocial, which says that 65 percent of its members surveyed said they would be unconcerned if their date used a voucher.

And for good measure, 37 percent preferred the cheaper - and no doubt the less romantic - pizza and wine meal.

According to LivingSocial Australia and New Zealand CEO, Colin Fabig, 'being conservative fiscally has become attractive. In light of recent economic events, consumers are looking for a partner who is responsible with money. As a result, group buying sites are more popular than ever.'

If you're wondering, too, what might be under your Christmas tree this year, here's a clue, particularly if you live in Western Australia, but maybe not in Victoria.

In a further indication of what LivingSocial says is group buying's popularity, 50.5 per cent of respondents in the same survey said yes when asked if they would give family a group-buying voucher for Christmas. Of those surveyed, Perth respondents were the most enthusiastic at 72 per cent, followed by Sydney at 57.7 per cent, with Melbourne respondents were less enthusiastic with only 31.5 per cent saying they would.

When asked what would be your ideal Christmas present to receive from a group-buying site, 65 per cent of survey respondents said they would prefer holiday accommodation, 21 per cent a pampering package, 11 per cent a night out at a restaurant and 3 per cent choose men's or women's fashion.

Give me the accommodation and the pampering package thanks! By the way, I'm in Melbourne, does that rule me out?
