The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has announced in a judgement overnight that it has upheld the FCC’s "Open Internet Rules".
The FCC says it will ‘preserve the Internet as a platform for innovation, free expression and economic growth’ with new rules and regulation it notes were previously ‘twice struck down by the courts’.
The US Commerce Secretary has pledged support for a ‘free and open’ Internet.
Although The Greens have consistently opposed the Internet Filter, the Liberals have until now seemed to be somewhat ambivalent in their opposition. This appears to be changing.
The Greens have ratcheted up pressure on Prime Minister Julia Gillard to dump the controversial internet filtering policy ahead of the looming Federal election, saying it is one policy the ALP will regret taking into the poll.
