NZ businesses eagerly awaiting FTTH network

A survey of New Zealand businesses on their attitudes to the Ultrafast Broadband Network - the country's version of Australia's National Broadband Network - has found over 80 percent of respondents likely to take up the service in the first year it becomes available, but wanting more information about speed and pricing.

The telecoms reforms announced yesterday by the Australian Government have been hailed as the biggest change in telecommunications in two decades, and the same claims are being made about the New Zealand Government's announcement today of its version of Australia's NBN: a $NZ1.5b plan to take fibre to most New Zealand homes over the next six years.

NZ telcos unite against Gov't FTTH initiative

In a rare show of unity Telecom NZ, TelstraClear and Vodafone have commissioned a joint study that is highly critical of the government's $NZ1.5b plan to deliver fibre to 75 percent of New Zealand within six years. TUANZ has branded the study as "backward-looking, negative and self serving."
