Vocus Communications (ASX: VOC) has scored a multi-year deal to provide international Internet access (IP transit) and domestic communication services to Perth-based mobile WiMAX network operator, vividwireless.

NetComm has revealed that the TD-LTE CPE it will build for the wireless part of the NBN, under contract to Ericsson, will be powered by Sequans TD-LTE modem chips.

NBN Co has secured the bulk of spectrum licences in the 2.3GHz band - needed for its fixed wireless network - in rural and remote areas of Australia in an auction held at the ACMA's offices in Canberra this morning, 13 July.

Next Wednesday, July 13, Telstra, NBN Co and vividwireless will battle each other for 2.3GHz spectrum covering vast swathes of rural and remote Australia, and home to some 700,000 people.

vividwireless - which presently operates mobile WiMAX networks in capital cities - has joined the Global TD-LTE Initiative (time division long term evolution) launched at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.

Vividwireless says it is sufficiently impressed with the price and performance of TD-LTE technology that it could use it for the deployment of planned network expansions in major East Coast capital cities.

Vividwireless is to trial TD-LTE (time division-LTE) in its existing spectrum by applying a software upgrade to the Huawei supplied WiMAX base stations that support its commercial WiMAX network.
