Global sales of electric vehicles have been predicted to hit 17.5 million units this year, meaning growth of 27.1% year-on-year, with the technology analyst firm Canalys adding that in 2023, sales grew by 29% and reached 13.7 million units.

Global sales of electric vehicles grew by 49% year-on-year in the first six months of 2023, the technology analyst firm Canalys says, adding that 6.2 million units were sold in this period.

Global sales of electric vehicles totalled 4.2 million in the first half of 2022, a 63% increase year-on-year, the technology analyst firm Canalys says, adding that this included battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

Global shipments of wearable bands grew by 5.6% year-on-year with a total of 40.9 million units being shipped in the second quarter of 2021, the technology analyst firm Canalys says, adding that the decline of basic band shipments, which began in the final quarter of 2020, has extended into the second quarter this year.

The global smart speaker market, including smart displays, will reach 163 million units in 2021, the tech analyst firm Canalys says, adding that this would represent growth of 21% year-on-year.

Much as it did in global shipments for the second quarter, Chinese telecommunications equipment vendor Huawei Technologies has done likewise in China, leading its home market by shipping 40.2 million units in the quarter and extending its market share to a massive 44%. There was a broad swathe of daylight between Huawei and second-placed vivo.

Wearable bands, smart personal audio devices and smart speakers will show growth of 9.8% to 718 million units in 2020, the technology research firm Canalys has predicted, adding that this would be due to consumer IoT vendors looking for growth in markets that have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

The value of the North American wearables market reached US2.0 billion in Q2 2019, with shipments up 38% at 7.7 million units, according to a new report.

The installed base of smart assistant devices in China will reach 5.8 billion by 2023, the tech analyst firm Canalys has forecast, adding that this would be about twice the installed base of the US at the same point.

China dominated the global smart speaker market in the first quarter of 2019, with nearly 51% or 10.6 million units being shipped, following by the US which accounted for 24% of shipments or 5.0 million units, down from 44% in the final quarter of 2018, the analyst firm Canalys says.

Global adoption of smart speakers is forecast to grow by 82.4%, from 114 million units in 2018 to 207.9 million in 2019, the analyst firm Canalys says, adding that the US will keep its lead in smart speaker adoption with 42.2% of the installed base by the end of the year.

The smart speaker market enjoyed a boom in 2018 with global shipments reaching 78.0 million units, a rise of 125% from the 34.7 million shipped in 2017, the analyst firm Canalys says.
