The lack of judicial oversight in the Federal Government's draft encryption bill, of those issuing notices for companies to comply with changes that decrypt data, will ensure that abuse of power is the order of the day, the Australian Lawyers Alliance says.

More than 2000 New Zealanders have signed a petition urging their government to offer WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange permanent political asylum in the country and also safe passage to the country from his present place of residence – the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange is in extremely poor health and unless he is released from the Ecuadorian embassy in London, his condition may deteriorate to the point where his life is threatened.
