By far the most requested feature for Windows 8 is  the return of the Start Button to the Desktop.

Freeware is important to the Windows community as Apps are to mobile devices. This series of reviews selects an outstanding freeware in each category and tests it for efficacy, free from spy/malware and if it is worth using.

Poor old Microsoft, damned of they do and damned if they don't. With US or EU competition regulators ever ready to pounce on them if they add a new feature that somebody claims is anti-competitive. The Sticky Notes feature in Windows 7 offers only minimal functionality, and there's a far better freeware alternative.

It will come as no surprise to many Mac users that most of the malware detected by Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac is targeting Windows. But don't be too complacent - genuine Mac malware is turning up as well.

DEVONtechnologies has updated its collection of freeware for the Mac to deliver extra features and to better integrate with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
