The competition watchdog, the ACCC has released draft guidance explaining the processes it will use when assessing acquisitions under Australia’s new merger regime, and is seeking feedback on the guidance through consultation.
The competition watchdog the ACCC has started civil cartel proceedings in the Federal Court against two companies - Spotless Facility Services Pty Ltd (a subsidiary of Downer EDI Limited - ASX: DOW) and Ventia Australia Pty Ltd (a subsidiary of Ventia Services Group Limited ASX: VNT) - and four senior executives, for alleged price fixing relating to estate maintenance and operation services for the Department of Defence (Defence).
While improved transparency has lowered costs for Australian consumers who send money overseas, consumers are still missing out on over $200 million in potential savings, according to the competition regulator, the ACCC.
