The funding allocations have been announced under tranches four and five of the Government’s $30 million Commercialisation Fund.

“The Commercialisation Fund is about supporting businesses to bring their outstanding products and services to new Australian and international markets, which helps to grow our economy and deliver jobs for local workers,” Acting Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Angus Taylor said.

“These grants enable businesses to undertake commercialisation activities such as research and development, investing in technologies that will assist them to scale up their operations, and securing further investment to grow even more.”

Acting Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Angus Taylor said the 10 successful projects are a testament to the ingenuity of Australia’s manufacturing sector, particularly across the Government’s six National Manufacturing Priority areas.

The projects funded under tranches four and five of the Commercialisation Fund include:

• Sleeptite PTY LTD (Hawthorn, VIC) has received $872,004 to fast-track the development of its revolutionary “REMI” sleep technology - a mattress monitoring and alert system for use in medical and care settings, providing real-time data analysis of a patient’s presence, position and posture while they are in bed.
• Commonwealth Steel Company Pty Limited (Molycop) (Sydney, NSW) has received $750,000 to develop its solution to transform Australian steel manufacturing. By recycling tyres, conveyer belts and gumboots to generate carbon and hydrogen, and incorporating these into the steel manufacturing process, Molycop is helping the steel manufacturing industry to reduce its carbon footprint and improve sustainability and productivity.
• Nexxis Technology Pty Ltd (O’Connor, WA) has received $675,002 to continue the development of its Magneto Modular Deployment Platform, a multi-limbed, climbing inspection robot which can provide testing and measuring for a variety of applications including oil rigs, engines, machinery, mining operations, infrastructure projects and manufacturing processes.
• Ellen Medical Devices Pty Limited (Newtown, NSW) has received $427,500 to manufacture and certify an affordable portable peritoneal dialysis system for sufferers of kidney failure, and develop a competitive manufacturing facility in Australia with significant export potential.
• Savic Motorcycles Pty Limited (West Melbourne, VIC) has received $657,481 to complete the development of its Australian-first, high-performance electric motorcycle to roadworthy certification.
• Sea Forest Ltd (Tasmania) received $675,000 to help it establish a processing and manufacturing facility for its seaweed product that could help Australia’s farmers to significantly reduce their carbon footprint.

The Government’s six National Manufacturing Priority areas are: Medical Products; Food and Beverage; Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Processing; Recycling and Clean Energy; Defence; and Space.

Grants are between $100,000 and $1 million, with funding to make up no more than 50 per-cent of total project costs, with the fund administered by the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre (AMGC), in collaboration with the five other Industry Growth Centres: AustCyber; Food Innovation Australia Ltd (FIAL); MTPConnect; METS Ignited; National Energy Resources Australia (NERA); and the CSIRO.
