Big plans for IT360

By

ManageEngine isn't resting on its laurels: the company has grand plans for its IT360 infrastructure monitoring suite.

IT360 is Zoho division ManageEngine's suite that combines four of the company's stand-alone IT management tools with a dashboard that can reflect the business as well as the technical implications of any issues.

Director of product management Rajesh Ganesan told iTWire the dashboard was designed to be applicable to operators and to business users. Not only does it show that for example a particular server is down, it also reveals how long a particular application has been unavailable as a result.

IT360 includes network, application, server, bandwidth, traffic and end-user experience monitoring, as well as IT asset management.

It also integrates data centre infrastructure management to help with objectives such as running servers at the optimal temperature, Mr Ganesan said.

The company's recent focus has been on adding support for new or revised products to IT360, but it is looking ahead to more substantial changes.

One of these is to add ManageEngine's security, Windows management and other tools to the suite. Their integration will be done as thoroughly as the initial components, he said, describing it as "value-added integration." For example, log data correlation will be available across the board.

Mr Ganesan said it will not be possible for IT360 to answer questions such as "how is downtime affecting my business" without such significant integration between the different operational aspects covered by IT360.

Another long-term goal is to move beyond the idea of presenting information in a dashboard format and instead allowing users to pose natural language questions along the lines of "what area do I most need to work on?"

But it is too early to say how or when this will be delivered, he warned.
