Data management specialist Veritas Technologies has launched NetBackup 10, the first of its products to use the new Veritas Cloud Scale Technology architecture.

Veritas Cloud Scale Technology is said to be a containerised, programmable, and AI-powered microservices architecture that provides autonomous unified data management services across any cloud.

Veritas describes NetBackup 10 as a "cloud-optimised, at-scale data management solution that applies web scale technologies and automation to deliver more cost-effective, efficient and secure data management in multi-cloud environments."

It includes enhanced multi-cloud storage and orchestrated tiering capabilities – including support for AWS and expanded support for Microsoft Azure (eg, for Azure Blob Storage) – together said to reduce the cost of backup storage by up to 95%.

Cost savings also come from improved deduplication and the ability to use elastic multi-cloud compute services to operate at the exact scale needed at the particular time.

NetBackup 10 features automated detection and protection for additional PaaS workloads, including Apache Cassandra, all major Kubernetes distributions and Microsoft Azure Managed SQL and Azure SQL.

And its multi-cloud cross-platform recovery means users can recover the data they want to any Kubernetes distribution.

The software now includes NetBackup SaaS Protection integration to provide a single-pane-of-glass view of data protection, a fully-integrated no-cost base version of NetBackup IT Analytics (formerly Veritas Aptare) for AI-driven analytics and reporting to streamline data protection and mitigate risks, and automatic malware scanning during backups and prior to restores to ensure infection-free recovery.

"Accelerated digital transformation and cloud adoption is delivering benefits to businesses," said Veritas ANZ managing director Pete Murray.

"However, a new joint advisory from the Australian, US and UK security services, highlighted that hackers are increasing the impact of their ransomware attacks by targeting cloud services and data.

The complex multi-cloud environments and current cyber security skills shortage have further compounded the issues for Australian businesses.

"To address these challenges, Veritas is laying out its strategy that will help to optimise cloud footprint and costs, keep data safe from ransomware, and pave the way to autonomous data management for our customers."
