The company announced a new funding option today that gives Australian campaign owners the ability to run their campaigns in AUD, where previously only USD was accepted.
Indiegogo said the move would result in savings on foreign exchange, wire and bank fees, as well as a higher potential total take-home amount for Australian campaigns.
Co-founder and chief customer officer of Indiegogo Danae Ringelmann said “Australians have always believed that everyone deserves a fair-go. We are constantly looking for better ways to improve the platform and better equip our global community to fund their passions.”
“Our company’s mission is to democratise funding worldwide and empower people to raise money for the projects that matter to them most. Together with our campaigners, Indiegogo has seen thousands of ideas come to life through the generosity of everyday people who have been inspired by the campaigns on the site.”

Kickstarter launches in Australia on 13 November, and one of its big features is the ability to use Australian dollars. This marks the first time Australians will be able to launch a Kickstarter at all however, while Indiegogo has been available (though in USD) down under since 2008.
Indiegogo said over the last year alone the amount of money raised for Australian campaigns has nearly tripled, led by exponential increases in technology and design. The company expects to continue seeing this rate of growth as Australians can now fund in their home currency.
The company also told iTWire about Sydney-based campaigners John and Lisa Winters, who have developed a bag that keeps smartphones charged.
They raised over $93,000 to get the Hustle Bag into production, and John said that without Indiegogo, their project would have just been another good idea thrown to the wind and not come into fruition.
"We have been blown away by the support we received for our campaign and can't thank our contributors enough. It is exciting to have a great idea, but seeing it come to life through the Indiegogo community is truly amazing," Winters said.
