Interactive TV programme guide developer, IceTV, has issued a prospectus to raise up to $4 million, which would give it a market capitalisation of $10 million.
The core of the company's business is its IceGuide downloadable software that will run on the increasing number of digital video recorders in Australian homes enabling users to pre-programme their viewing choices from a regularly update on-screen menu of upcoming programmes.
Dependent on the success of this, the company will also consider selling entertainment content, such as movies and music, in addition to advertising and branding within the IceGuide service.
The company claims that the IceGuide is only subscription based EPG available for the majority of the population who watch digital free-to-air TV in Australia. It was launched in April 2005 and has been marketed since July 2005.
It is claimed to be compatible with most PC-based Media Centres and the "leading digital video recorder (DVR) brand" (from Topfield). The company has about 1500 subscribers for the service and claims to be adding about 150 per month "notwithstanding limited marketing and advertising". The service costs $146 per year.
The company also offers a free daily IceGuide service using software downloaded to a PC, or a Mac, that gives users regularly updated information on the next 24 hours programming on free-to-air channels. It has about 5000 users for this service.
IceTV plans to generate additional revenue by enhancing the functionality of products compatible with the IceGuide, with its Personal Interactive Media Planner, going by the unfortunate acronym 'PIMP'. This will allow subscribers to remotely programme home television recordings from a variety of devices, including include web browsers and 3G mobile phones.
