According to Springfield's managing director Bob Sharpless the company is also interested in building a data centre in NSW and that the company had had some early 'very loose discussions' with a financial institution in the State.
Mr Sharpless said that Springfield and its development partner One Zero Australia were interested in building a data centre in NSW as soon as it had a pre commitment from a prospective tenant.
While other geographies were also of interest, Mr Sharpless said that the company would most likely not build data centres in Canberra as that was 'just too hard.'
Asked whether the company might float off its data centre development business as a separate entity, able to go to the market for funds, Mr Sharpless said that was not currently being considered. He said that data centres remained an 'asset class we are comfortable with.'

The company has also claimed that the Victoria data centre was expected to attract interest from around Asia Pacific. Springfield's data centre executive Chris Schroor is currently in Kuala Lumpur.
Mr Sharpless confirmed that the Derrimut facility will be very similar to the Polaris facility it had built in Queensland and would also be a Tier 3+ rated data centre. While the company has claimed it will also be the greenest data centre in Australia, it will not adopt co-generation.
'I don't think that's viable at the moment,' said Mr Sharpless.
