Axis opens doors

By

Surveillance camera vendor Axis Communications has been expanding into other aspects of security, and its latest product is a card reader for physical access control.

While Axis is best known for its broad range of networked security cameras, it started moving into other aspects of physical security earlier this year with the announcement of its A1001 network door controller.

The latest addition to the range is the A4011-E card reader, developed in conjunction with door control specialist Assa Abloy.

The A4011-E is designed for indoor and outdoor use, and supports most 13.56 MHz card formats including MIFARE Classic, MIFARE Plus, MIFARE DESFire EV1, iCLASS and SEOS.

Two different formats can be handled simultaneously, making it easier to switch from one type of card to another.

"Since the launch of our successful Axis A1001 network door controller, we've had many customers ask about a door reader from Axis", said Oceania country manager Wai King Wong.

"With the introduction of Axis A4011-E reader we are now able to provide a feature-rich and future-proof door reader suitable for most installations.

"The reader is based on proven technology from Assa Abloy, a company with great experience in readers and access control solutions."

Like the A1001, the $418 A4011-E will be available before the end of the year.
