Fixed wireless and wholesale network infrastructure provider Swoop has appointed Declan O’Callaghan to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Swoop says Declan O’Callaghan brings extensive regional telco experience to Swoop having worked in senior leadership roles in major telecommunications companies.

Swoop notes that O’Callaghan’s appointment follows an “impressive FY23 result which included 51% YoY revenue growth, a corresponding Underlying EBITDA of $16.3M, up from $13.0M, with an accompanying $0.5m positive free cash flow (FCF) position” and its first quarter of positive Free Cash Flow in Q4 FY23.

“This will further deepen the support of Swoop as a major challenger brand to the larger telcos, particularly in regional Australia.

“In his new role as COO, Declan is responsible for overseeing all areas of the business related to operations, from supporting the business in providing the best network through to onboarding and support for all Swoop’s customers.

Swoop Chief Executive Officer, Alex West, said, “I am very pleased to announce that Declan O’Callaghan has joined us as our new Chief Operating Officer.

“Declan’s experience in the telco space working in senior leadership roles provides him with the #knowledge and expertise and attitude to look strategically at what we need to do short and long term to achieve our vision for Swoop.

“As we continue to expand rapidly with the ambition of becoming Australia’s premier challenger brand in the telecommunications market, Declan’s arrival comes at a pivotal time. His strategic foresight, coupled with his dedication to nurturing teams through a values based framework whilst innovating leadership strategies, aligns seamlessly with our goal to delight our customers.

“His expertise will be instrumental in driving our mission forward, ensuring that Swoop not only meets the market demands but continues to deliver a better telecommunications experience.”

Declan O’Callaghan said “I’m very excited to be taking on the role of Chief Operating Officer at Swoop after a period of high growth. Swoop has offered
me a platform to enable our team to shine through accountability and values. If I can help everyone around me strive for excellence this will help us to deliver on our collective purpose, to give everyone in Australia a better telco experience.

“At Swoop I have never seen such commitment to challenge the status quo. I truly believe I have found my tribe, we’re all 100 percent driven to become Australia’s best challenger internet and telecommunications provider.

“In my role as Chief Operating Officer, my focus is on creating a safe haven for our customers both internal and external, providing a positive impact to every customer experience and ensuring our customers are delivered and serviced beyond their expectations.”

Prior to joining Swoop, O’Callaghan spent over twenty five years working in senior leadership roles with listed companies in the telecommunications industry including Voiteck and Vodafone.

Swoop says that in his spare time, “Declan loves spending time at the beach, riding push bikes or going to the outback or the Himalayas on hiking holidays. He enjoys practising mindfulness and is always looking for his next DIY project.”
