ZTE joins the tablet race

Chihese telecoms vendor, ZTE has joined the growing ranks of tablet vendors with launch of the Android-based ZTE Light.

It has a 7 inch TFT touch screen, weighs 403g and supports voice calling on dual band UMTS 2100MHz/900MHz and Internet access on HSPA network with a download speed of up to 7.2 Mbps and an upload speed of up to 5.76Mbps. It  comes with 512MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM and uses Android 2.1.

Support for GPS and WiFi, are built in as is a 3 megapixel camera  and music and video player with Mp4 support, standard picture format compatibility, bluetooth, external SD slot with up to 32G external memory, a 3.5mm stereo headset, Battery life is claimed to be 10 hours of usage. No pricing or availability details have been given.

The announcement of the ZTE Light follows that of rival Chinese vendor, Huawei, which announced its SmaKit 7 in June, and which is about to go on sale through Telstra at $299. ZTE's device, however does not support HSPA at the Next g frequency of 850MHz.
