Oracle's SPARC sales soar

By

Oracle's SPARC T4 may be seen by some as a minority platform, but the company has announced it now has 3000 enterprise customers running mission-critical workloads, nearly four times as many as this time last year.

Company officials said the SPARC T4 servers have been adopted in all major industry sectors. Customers coming out in support of Oracle included South Africa based mineral process solutions provider Multotec, Japan based Seico Fresh Foods, and pan-European air transport IT and communications specialist SITA.

Advantages of the T4 are said to include world record performance on a range of benchmarks and application workloads, and the inclusion of the Oracle Solaris operating system, Oracle VM Server for SPARC, and Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center 12c.

"Oracle's SPARC T4 servers provide a combination of performance, scalability and security that's resonating with customers in Asia Pacific just as it does across the globe," said Adrian Jones, Oracle's senior vice president for Asia Pacific and Japan.

"With Oracle Solaris, SPARC T4 servers provide full binary compatibility, making it easier for customers to migrate applications from previous generation servers achieving greater performance and utilisation. We are extremely excited to see the great growth momentum SPARC T4 servers have received in almost all industry verticals."
