Viacom business data left exposed in AWS bucket

Security firm UpGuard says it found an exposed cache of data belonging to Fortune 500 firm Viacom in an Amazon Web Services S3 cloud storage bucket. Included in the data was the company's secret cloud keys.

Apple to announce it has US$250b cash stash

Apple is scheduled to report its second fiscal quarter earnings overnight and the company will announce that it has more than US$250 billion in cash, most of it stashed outside the US.

YouTube and MGM in movie and TV show deal

There’s no official word on YouTube’s official blog yet, but the news has come through that MGM will show full-length movies and TV shows in partnership with YouTube and in competition with TV network owned by News Corp and NBC Universal. MGM will display ads “alongside” the video to monetise its content.

Looks like it's now going to be OK to upload video clips to your favourite video sharing sites despite billion dollar lawsuits to stop it from happening, with a new video fingerprint system from Auditude that identifies clips even with only a few seconds of video, bringing the possibility of monetization from public video uploads – at last!

Your YouTube viewing history is safe from the prying eyes of Viacom and the other companies suing Google, at least for now. Despite a recent court  order backing a Viacom demand for YouTube to hand over complete user viewing history records, Viacom and its confederates have partially backed off.

No appeal from Google on YouTube data ruling

An appeal by Google against the decision of a federal judge in New York that it must hand over details of every video ever viewed on YouTube to Viacom was not only widely expected, but thought to be pretty much a given. A comment by Google's senior litigation counsel seems to suggest otherwise...

A judge has ordered that YouTube must hand over every record of every video watched by YouTube users to Viacom. That's the user name, address and IP address relating to every video clip you ever watched. The data, contained on a set of four terabyte hard drives, is to be used to help Viacom prove that copyright infringing material is more popular than user-generated video content. And increase the liability of Google if Viacom wins its $1 billion copyright infringement case, of course. Meanwhile, it seems, all your YouTube viewing history belongs to Viacom...
