Nintendo says may beat 2006/07 earnings forecast

KYOTO, Japan (Reuters) - Japanese video game maker Nintendo Co. Ltd. (7974.OS: QuoteNEWS , Research) said on Tuesday it is possible the company will beat its own earnings forecast for the current business year, helped by continued robust sales of its DS handheld games. DS sales for the year to the end of next March may exceed its official forecast of 20 million units, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata told Reuters in an interview.

Wii play, Wii work out

Global Wii sales have already passed the one million mark in the two weeks since its US launch, and it's onward to 2 million. A large part of the reason is that the new gaming device appears to have captured the imagination of a wider audience than traditional gamers. In fact, it may even become the first gaming device to be endorsed by personal trainers.

Wii go nuts in Japan.

As predicted, Nintendos little box that can, the Wii, has sold out on launch day in Japan.  Pretty much a easy win on home soil, but the numbers are still impressive.  One Million Wiis in homes.

Nintendo is predicting "pandemonium and mayhem" when the Wii goes on sale in Japan on December 2, but the Australian launch the following week will probably prove to be a more sedate affair.

Microsoft revamps Xbox site as console rivals circle

While Nintendo and Sony can boast imminent new models, Microsoft is looking to a more basic tactic to boost interest in its Xbox console in Australia - a revamp of the product's official web site under a new producer.
