The Moto Z2 Play, Gen 2, 2017, packs way more into its next iteration as the entry-level flagship of the Z series. Add Moto Mods compatibility and it can take sales from its more expensive big brothers, the Z2 and Z2 Force.

One of the best, Android phones in 2016 was the Moto Z with its Moto Mods range that could add a Hasselblad camera, Ingrid battery, pico projector and more.

A pioneer, and once the major force in mobile communications, Motorola has been through some interesting times. Back in 2011 Google bought Motorola Mobility, its smartphone and home division, and in late 2014 Lenovo picked up the pieces.

Moto by Lenovo is back — the new Moto Z may well be the best pure Android handset of 2016 — outclassing the new Google Pixel (which iTWire is also reviewing at present).

Moto wants to be seen as innovative, quirky and cool. After several years in the wilderness, going from Motorola to Google to Lenovo, it believes it has regained its mojo – sorry, Moto!

Moto fired some well-aimed shots over the bow of Apple’s new iPhone 7 pending its release of what it says is among the only true innovation shown by any smartphone maker this year.
