UNSW Sydney researchers uncover why people are drawn to violent video games
Why are violent video games fascinating for people of all ages and genders? Drawing on evolutionary psychology and cognitive evaluation theory—a theory explaining the effect of extrinsic rewards on intrinsic motivation—and a recent paper published in Motivation Science, UNSW Sydney researchers say that violent games resonate with people because they offer opportunities to fulfil our psychological needs.
