Laptops from HP Inc will soon feature software, known as HP Sure Sense from Israeli security outfit Deep Instinct, that will use artificial intelligence to protect against malware attacks.

Global PC shipments stood at 259.4 million in 2018, a fall of 1.3% from the previous year, according to the technology research firm Gartner, which said two key trends had affected the industry during the year.

Global PC shipments for the third quarter of 2017 fell by 3.6% compared to the corresponding quarter in the previous year, with 67 million units being shipped.

Today is the day that the original Silicon Valley tech pioneer Hewlett-Packard has split itself into two smaller but still gigantic companies - both brandishing the iconic HP moniker. One company is Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE), which specialises in software and business services, while the other, HP Inc (NYSE: HPQ), will continue the company’s PCs and printers business.

Australian-born Dion Weisler will head the new HP Inc. - its Personal Systems (PC) and Printing side after the company was split into two parts – the other being its enterprise division.

HP is planning to shed another 30,000 jobs within the newly formed Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) unit – a technology division focused on consulting and data analysis that will be hived-off from its personal computer and printing divisions (HP Inc).

HP, the giant systems company that is now bigger than IBM, is splitting itself in half. Slightly smaller than half, actually - 5000 jobs will go.
