Space Compass, NTT Docomo connect to 4G devices via HAPS 20 km above Kenya
Non-terrestrial communications infrastructure provider Space Compass and Japan's mobile operator NTT Docomo have completed data connectivity tests between an LTE base station and smartphones using high-altitude platform stations (HAPS) from the stratosphere above Kenya.

Airbus, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, NTT Docomo, and Sky Perfect JSAT are studying the feasibility of high-altitude platform stations (HAPS)-based connectivity services as part of a future space-based wireless connectivity ecosystem.
