Smartpen maker Livescribe has been acquired by its technology provider Anoto to ‘complement Anoto’s vision for multi-surface digital writing and drawing’ as a wholly owned subsidiary.
The pen might be mightier than the sword but it's unlikely to prove a match for the tablet and the smartphone, unless Livescribe realises its vision of a smart pen tightly integrated with smartphone and tablet.
Livescribe, the company behind the Echo Smartpen, has added WiFi connectivity with the launch of the Sky Smartpen and has tightly integrated it with cloud-based file storage and management service, Evernote.
Livescribe has upgraded its Smartpen product - which uses digital paper and its inbuilt digital recorder to create a recording of pen movements with synchronised audio - to enable these recordings to be emailed or uploaded to Google Docs, Evernote and Facebook and viewed with as an animated PDF with a Flash-enabled Abode Reader.
Livescribe, the company behind the smart-paper based Pulse smartpen, has announced a new model, the Echo smartpen, several significant software enhancements and previewed a number of new developments slated for introduction later this year.
