Mac 'web share' on the rise

By
The Macintosh's 'web share' reached 6.46 percent in May, according to Net Applications' figures.

While that's way behind Windows XP's 82.02 percent, it is well ahead of Windows Vista on 3.74 percent, and is the only platform to break out of the "other" category in Net Applications' headline analysis.

That said, "other" is also becoming more significant, growing share from 0.89 to 2.18 percent between June 2007 and last month. Linux had a 0.7 percent web share, up from 0.38 percent.

The Mac's share increased by over 50 percent over the same period. As would be expected, Intel based models are steadily becoming responsible for a more significant part of the platform's web share, rising from less than 10 percent in June 2006 to almost 40 percent this May.

Safari has a 4.82 percent 'browser share', suggesting Firefox and other browsers are responsible for around one-quarter of web use from Macs.
