The milestone comes a mere two weeks after launch, and is measured in actual sales to consumers as opposed to shipments to retail stores.
The PlayStation 4 hit North America on November 15 and quickly became a sales hit. Sony announced at that time that it sold 1 million PlayStation 4 units in just 24 hours to customers in the US and Canada.
In the UK, the PlayStation 4 became the best-selling console at launch with 250,000 units sold in 48 hours.
On 29 November the Japanese tech giant released its PS4 across around the rest of the world, and i's now available in 32 countries including Australia.
Microsoft's Xbox One had a simultaneous worldwide launch on 22 November, and it's believed is experiencing similar sales numbers.
Microsoft has yet to release a statement for the number of Xbox Ones sold in November.
