Victorian iAwards recognise local innovators

The winners of the Victorian iAwards were announced last night. They include some well-known organisations as well as others that don't get into the public eye very often.


Backed by the Australian Information Industry Association, the annual iAwards start with state and territory rounds, followed by the national awards which this year will be presented in Melbourne on August 5.

The Victorian winners of the 14 categories were as follows:

Communications: NEC Australia, for the MAC mobile access controller

eGovernment: PAN software, for the RiskWare enterprise risk intelligence software

eHealth: iCare Solutions, for the iCare Solutions aged care electronic health record

eLearning: SkillSoft, for its e-learning solutions

eLogistics and Supply Chain: Peerless Foods, for Peerless Foods ERP

Financial Industry Application: REMASYS, for EAGLE-i

ICT Exporter of the Year: Nintex, with its Nintex Workflow

Industrial application: Thales Australia, for the Java Human Machine Interface (JHMI) Engine

Media and entertainment: Firemint, for Real Racing (an iPhone game)

Research and development: C3 Business Solutions, for C3 Integrity

Start-up: Manage Protect

Tools and Infrastructure: REMASYS, for EAGLE-i

Tourism and hospitality: geekIT Group, for Retail Online Management System (ROMS)

Sustainability and Green IT: Box Hill Institute, for its Graduate Certificate in ICT Sustainability

"These awards recognise the fantastic innovations that Victorian companies are making in the ICT space and showcases the enormous talent that is the reason why Victoria leads the nation in ICT," said Jaala Pulford, Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for Industry and Trade, who represented the ICT Minister at the ceremony.

Three student projects were also recognised during the awards: Sam Fowler's Pirate Pete's Treasure Chest, Tom Chiew' Farmhand (both from Caulfield Grammar School), and RMIT student Vincent Truong for the RMIT University Open Day iPhone app.
