Two acquisitions for MYOB

Business software provider MYOB has acquired business operations software specialist Tall Emu and document management software developer Nimbus Portal Solutions.

Tall Emu's product is a customer relationship management system with the ability to see and track multiple sales flows including marketing and lead management, quoting and selling, online payment, back-order handling, fulfilment and delivery and post sales services.

MYOB sees opportunities in combining these end-to-end management tools with its existing financial management capabilities.

"We are delighted that we'll be working with Tall Emu's highly experienced team to combine our skills and knowledge so we can continue to build great software solutions that solve real business challenges for SMEs," said MYOB SME general manager Emma Fawcett.

"As a product that is specifically designed for SMEs, we are excited by the potential for Tall Emu's software to help our customers save time, improve efficiency and grow revenue – delivering the technology which may previously have seemed out of reach, or cost prohibitive."

In the short term, Tall Emu will continue to operate independently, but MYOB will invest in R&D at the company, with a view to enhancing the product and, in the longer term, integration with MYOB products.

"The acquisition is a magnificent outcome for us. We are incredibly excited by the prospect of learning from the MYOB team and leveraging their decades of experience, market and brand awareness, to unlock the full potential of our software for more businesses," said Tall Emu CEO Mike Nash.

"Some of our customers spend all day on our software – the software shows them that they don't need buckets of money to get access to the information they need, and, in fact, they can leverage the existing systems to gain an end-to-end view. It's a whole of business process."

The acquisition of Nimbus Portal Solutions brings cloud document management to MYOB's Accountant and Practice suite.

Nimbus is tailored to the needs of accountants and practice managers, with a client portal, customised workflows and collaboration tools to help practices to manage their documentation.

"We know how important it is for our accountant and practice customers to have solutions which help their teams collaborate efficiently in distributed work environments, improve their client engagement and meet their document storage compliance obligations – Nimbus ticked all these boxes in spades," said MYOB CFO Caroline Rawlinson.

"We are delighted to be investing in a team who have strong history and expertise in the Australian and New Zealand market and share a passion for improving performance outcomes for accountants and practices."

Nimbus Portal Solutions CEO John Woodbridge said "We set out on our business journey with the premise that document management software was one of the most important and under-appreciated solutions available to any accounting practice.

"Eleven years later, we continue to be thrilled by the feedback we receive from our customers who embraced the move to digitisation, adopted our paperless solution and realised the extraordinary benefits in time, efficiency and security that Nimbus delivers to them and their clients.

The acquisition will provide MYOB's practice customers with improved document management, including enhancements to document versioning, archiving, workflows and online checklists.

"We're continuing to evolve our SaaS practice solutions and are incredibly excited by the new suite of cloud capabilities we're bringing to the MYOB business management platform," added Rawlinson.

"We are looking forward to combining our collective talents with the team at Nimbus Portal Solutions to optimise outcomes for our customers – bringing solutions to market faster, as well delivering improvements and integration capabilities which will help accountants and practices perform at their best."

The latest acquisitions follow that of cloud practice management software developer GreatSoft in June 2021.
