Channel Ten today announced it was the first Australian commercial free-to-air TV network to sign on with Microsoft as part of its its on-demand Xbox platform.

25 Channel Ten programs will be initially be available when the Xbox app goes live for Gold users, to arrive on Xbox 360 on Wednesday 10 July.

The move also marks the first product release for Ten’s “TV Anywhere” strategy, according to chief digital officer Rebekah Horne.

“Our goal is to deliver a TV experience anywhere that consumers are engaging with video content. Ten’s TV anywhere strategy will be realised over time by a number of product releases across different platforms and devices,” she said.

The product will be monetized with ads in the program breaks, and a spokeswoman for Ten told ad news website B&T the company may look at targeted ads in the app itself, but would not speculate on the number of users and views they are anticipating.

The 25 programs will include popular titles like Offspring, Bondi Rescue and The Graham Norton Show, alongisde Ten News at Five and Ten Late News.

Foxtel has already long had a presence on Xbox, as part of its standalone Foxtel on Xbox service.

As we previously reported, Microsoft filed a patent back in 2011 for its Kinect camera device, meaning the company will have the ability to track your every move.

This could prove extremely lucrative for both Microsoft and advertisers, who will be able to monitor metrics like how many people are watching the TV at any given time, their gender, and more.
