Intel is investing in VoIP service provider Skype to make sure that Skype software is optimised for Intel's next generation of dual-core processors. Intel senior vice president, Pat Gelsinger, told the Intel Developers Forum in San Francisco last week that: "I'm happy to announce a partnership between Intel and Skype to make their clients perform better on our platforms using our software technology, codec technology and our dual-core platforms." Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, according to a report in CNET, an Intel representative said Skype would not receive funds from Intel Capital, Intel's strategic investment arm. According to CNet, Intel is particularly keen to make sure Skype is optimised or the next version of its Centrino mobile chipset, code named Napa and due out in early 2006.
