SUSE expands relationship with AWS

By

Germany-based open source provider SUSE Linux has expanded the relationship it has with Amazon Web Services to allow the latter to sell its enterprise server from the AWS Marketplace.

This means that AWS customers who are running SAP workloads on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications — a leading platform for SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA — will receive support from AWS and SUSE.

A statement from SUSE said AWS customers could buy the SUSE Linux Enterprise solution on demand, paying for what they used.

It said this expanded collaboration allowed SUSE and AWS to meet growing customer demand for the benefits that came as a part of running business-critical applications on the cloud.

“Tens of thousands of enterprises around the world, spanning major industries, count on SUSE for their mission-critical computing environments, including those running SAP workloads,” said Naji Almahmoud, SUSE vice-president of Global Alliances.

“Our commitment to those enterprise users is unwavering, and this expanded collaboration demonstrates how AWS and SUSE are continually finding ways to enhance the customer experience for business-critical applications on the cloud using SUSE Linux for SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA.

"The marketplace can expect continued collaboration, which will enable us to meet and surpass customers’ demanding requirements for SAP workloads on AWS.”

Bas Kamphuis, general manager, AWS, said, “We are excited to extend our relationship with SUSE to offer SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications on AWS Marketplace. Our customers will receive Amazon Business support by default, providing a single point of contact.

"Further, the collaboration is designed to help customers deploy and scale SAP HANA workloads on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications more easily and at a more compelling price point.”

AWS certified its platform for SAP applications in 2012 and since then customers have used SUSE Linux Enterprise Server to run SAP workloads on AWS.

In 2014, when AWS certified its instances for SAP HANA, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications was also made available on AWS.

Until now, customers have used SUSE’s bring-your-own-subscription programme to deploy SAP workloads on AWS. With the expanded collaboration, they can use on-demand pricing and Reserved Instances to increase their SAP footprint on AWS.
