It announced it deployed 300 Nokia drone-in-a-box units for emergency response, perimeter protection, and infrastructure inspection.
Public safety agencies in Switzerland will tap into the nationwide drone network by simply requesting a drone flight, similar to a ride-sharing service, from Swisscom Broadcast.
The drones were deployed to augment first responders’ safety. It will be used to inspect tall or hard-to-reach infrastructure, eliminating the need for construction workers to climb buildings.

The drone network platform integrates the drone, a docking station, a ground control station, a payload with video and thermal cameras, related software, and service components while also supporting interfaces and APIs for easy third-party integrations.
The deployment is expected to be available in all areas of Switzerland.
Nokia and Swisscom will comply with regulatory bodies to ensure all operations follow regulatory frameworks, especially from spectrum and aviation safety standpoints.
Nokia said this is the second nationwide drone networks project as it won a similar contract with Belgium’s Citymesh in 2023.
