The cases to boost the development of 6G are aligned with PM Narendra Modi’s ambition to give India “a key global role in the implementation of technology.”
The 6G lab is poised to contribute to the nation’s Bharat 6G alliance that will explore the adoption of the next-generation network.
Industry Indian giants Airtel, Jio, Vodafone Idea, and Tech Mahindra will contribute their expertise to the alliance.

The facility is expected to have similarities with Europe’s flagship 6G research projects including Hexa-X and Hexa X-II.
Nokia noted the lab includes setup to research network as a sensor technology that enables the network to sense objects without on-board sensors.
The site will be designated as an “experimental platform” to study algorithms, privacy, and sustainable system design.
“We look forward to collaborating with key stakeholders to help India become a major player in 6G technology development and adoption; and take its place in the global arena as a leading developer and supplier of advanced telecom technologies and solutions,” said Nokia chief strategy and technology officer Nishant Batra.
