Lánluas offers TechnologyOne cloud migration guide

By

A survey by TechnologyOne specialist Lánluas Consulting has found a third of its clients are still using the software on premises even though support ends in September 2024.

Just under half of those surveyed are using TechnologyOne wholly in the cloud.

So it is not surprising that 28% of respondents say cloud migration is their top priority in 2023.

Issues of concern for those still operating on premises include the need to educate staff on the new system (43%), cost (39%), potential issues around migrating a complicated legacy system (21%), security (14%), and the lack of a cloud migration strategy (14%).

More than one in ten (11%) of Lánluas clients will wait until the deadline is closer to migrate.

But among those who have completed their cloud migration, only 11% said cost was a particular issue, although 46% nominated staff training.

Other top problems were lost features (40%), data transfer (23%), speed of internet connection (23%), size and complexity of the project (23%), and ensuring security and compliance (17%).

Lánluas has published Migration Unlocked - The Fluff Free Guide to Cloud Migration for TechnologyOne Customers to help users understand what they need to prepare before undertaking a migration, the common pitfalls of migrations, examples of phased approaches and real-life case studies.

"Cloud migration remains a strategic imperative for all organisations and especially TechnologyOne clients," said Lánluas Consulting engagement manager David Stubbings.

"Navigating this intricate journey necessitates strategic planning, a clear understanding of the nuances, and a willingness to engage experts when required to help ensure no unplanned incidents result in lost data, broken integrations and interfaces or a delay in business operations.

He added "Organisations often stumble upon common migration pitfalls due to inadequate preparation, including underestimating the project's scope, failing to rectify on-premise inefficiencies, introducing new functionality mid-migration, neglecting comprehensive testing, overlooking user training, and incurring unnecessary costs due to timing misalignments. As the technology landscape continues to evolve, organisations that successfully embrace cloud migration stand poised for enhanced efficiency, agility, and future-proofed operations, especially if done correctly from the beginning."

The research was undertaken between January and July 2023 with 122 senior level government, education and health sector clients in Australia, New Zealand and the UK by The Insights Grill. Roles included finance director, CFO, accountant, CIO and systems administrator.
