Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v5 adds support for Microsoft Teams.
While Teams is built on Sharepoint and OneDrive (which are already supported by Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365), v5 provides for the granular recovery of individual items from within Teams, Veeam CTO and senior vice president of product strategy Danny Allan explained.
It protects channels, settings and tabs as well as data stored in Teams, with a fast and easy recovery experience, and provides search and find across Teams components.

The new version also supports modern authentication methods.
Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 is "the fastest growing product in the history of Veeam," Allan told iTWire.
"We want to protect every SaaS platform," he said, noting that the company has received customer requests for products to protect data stored in Salesforce, G Suite and other platforms.
However, market size and maturity affect product decisions. Most other services are significantly smaller than Office 365, and "people are not always aware that they need to protect [SaaS data]."
But Office 365 presents a huge market opportunity for Veeam, he said, and the growth in remote working means a huge amount of intellectual property is being stored in Office 365 – especially in Microsoft Teams – so data protection is "more required now than ever."
Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v5 will be generally available in the third quarter of 2020.
Veeam Availability Orchestrator (VAO) v3 provides the fastest recovery through integration with NetApp Ontap snapshots and orchestrated failover to DR sites (or migration to new data centres), while the new DR Pack for current users of Veeam Backup & Replication or Veeam Availability Suite reduces the cost of disaster recovery planning and compliance across all workloads by up to 80%.
“VAO v3 provides intelligent orchestration and testing for business continuity and disaster recovery and migration operations, using our advanced recovery technology to eliminate the otherwise manual, time-consuming and repeatable processes for necessary DR and migration planning," said Allan.
"And with the new DR Pack, we are changing the game for enterprise-grade DR by delivering orchestration and automation capabilities at a price point that is unheard of in this market. In today’s world, all data is essential and the DR Pack will enable businesses to simply and reliably extend DR planning beyond what’s historically been deemed the most essential workloads to now include all workloads.”
Inchcape Australia IT operations manager Darren Warner said “Veeam Availability Orchestrator takes the pain out of orchestrating and maintaining 100% data availability, and it’s so efficient that we can even do testing during business hours, because it takes only 10 minutes or so.
"The great thing about Veeam is that it just works. Because of the speed of recovery and ease of management, no one is now managing data on a day-to-day basis.”
Allan told iTWire that VAO provides "brilliant outcomes for organisations, but requires expertise to set up."
"That's why our channels and partners are so important," he explained – they have the expertise that customers might lack.
VAO v3 should be generally available within the next 30 days.
A selection of features coming to Veeam Availability Suite were previewed at VeeamOn 2020:
• Near continuous data protection provides VM replication with recovery point objectives (RPOs) of seconds for VMware vSphere workloads.
• Object storage integrations will include Google Cloud Storage support for capacity tier (joining S3 and Azure), and provide archive tier support for AWS Glacier, AWS Glacier Deep Archive and Microsoft Azure Blob Storage Archive Tier.
• Instant recovery of any backup to a Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machine, instant publishing of NAS backup content, and instant recovery of Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases.
Veeam Backup for AWS v2 can be used for AWS-to-AWS backup and disaster recovery, or – as part of the broader Veeam Platform – for cloud mobility and data portability for backup, recovery and migration to, from and within cloud, virtual or physical environments.
Enhancements in v2 include:
• AWS disaster recovery to protect against regional outages by replicating and recovering Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) snapshots across AWS accounts and AWS Regions.
• Integration with the newly released changed block tracking (CBT) API to shrink backup windows as well as compute and storage costs.
• Application consistent snapshots and backups of running Amazon EC2 instances without shutting down or disconnecting attached Amazon EBS volumes.
• Public RESTful API to securely connect external applications and workflows to integrate with and manage Veeam Backup for AWS.
“Veeam R&D efforts for future releases have always been built off of feedback from our strong user and partner community, and this latest release of Veeam Backup for AWS is no different,” said Allan.
“We continually remind our users and partners that it is the customer’s responsibility to make sure their data is protected and secure, whether it is stored on-premises or in the cloud – and even more so now when data holds more value than ever."
Allan told iTWire that even though this is the second major release of Veeam Backup for AWS in six months, there's more to come this year.
"We are serious about ruling the cloud data backup market," he said.
Veeam pioneered many areas of data protection, and will continue to surprise the market with capabilities that people didn't realise they needed, Allan predicted.
Veeam Backup for AWS is now available in the AWS Marketplace. A full-featured free edition can be used with up to10 EC2 instances.
In related news, Veeam has achieved AWS Storage Competency as part of its Advanced Technology Partner status in the AWS Partner Network.
