CommBank’s Android Wear app in pilot, Apple Watch app on the way

By

Australia’s Commonwealth Bank is introducing its CommBank app for smartwatches, with the Android Wear app now in pilot and the Apple Watch app coming soon.

CommBank’s smartwatch app, when it arrives to all Android Wear and Apple Watch users, will offer everyday mobile banking essentials including:

  • Simple Balance with a tap of the watch
  • ATM locator
  • and transactional capabilities with Cardless Cash enabling cardless cash withdrawals from ATMs.

Liza Frazier, CommBank’s Executive GM of Digital Channels said the smartwatch apps were a ‘natural extension of the CommBank app’.

Frazier stated: “With 65% of logons to everyday banking and more than $100 billion in payments each year coming via our CommBank app, we are committed to delivering more personalised, simple and convenient mobile banking experiences.

“Smart watches represent the next exciting generation of personal mobile devices. We are at the start of a new way of banking and together with our customers’ passion for mobile and cardless banking, we will lead in developing ways to fully leverage the capabilities of smart watches.

“For example, we will be including one of CommBank app’s most popular features, Cardless Cash as a transactional capability – making us the first of the Bank’s to offer this feature.

“Today, we all lead very busy lives. The CommBank app for smart watch is the latest example of technology leadership and innovation from CommBank focused on making things simple and secure for our customers helping them get time back in their day,” concluded Frazier.

The Commonwealth Bank says that all features in its app for smart watches is 'covered by the Bank’s 100% Security Guarantee.’
