Cheng will take over from Darren Simmons to head the Acer Oceanic region later this month.

A 15-year veteran of the local company, Cheng joined Acer in 2007 as National Product Manager, and then stepped into Head of Consumer Client Products before rising to the role of General Manager in 2014.

Acer says that as head of product management for the Oceanic region, Cheng has been instrumental in the go-to-market product strategy for its leading consumer, gaming and commercial product lines.

Prior to working with Acer, Cheng worked at BenQ as national distribution manager.

Speaking about his appointment, Cheng said: “On behalf of myself and the Acer team here in Australia and New Zealand, I would like to thank Darren for the significant impact he has made in the region during his tenure as managing director. I look forward to working with the team to build on the platform that Darren has built and put in place over the past eight years.”

Acer says that during his eight years as managing director and over 21 years of service, Simmons enjoyed a highly successful stint in the company as sales director before taking on the reigns and being appointed the first ever local MD in February 2014.

“Under Mr Simmon’s leadership the business has successfully stabilised and more than doubled its revenues across the ANZ region cementing Acer as a market leading brand in the commercial,consumer and gaming markets,’ noted Acer.

Acer says Gaba Cheng is currently working through a transition and handover with Simmons to move into the role and lead the region effective from 19 April.
