Kogan Mobile goes 4G

By

Kogan Mobile prepaid subscribers are about to get 4G service at no extra charge.

Previously limited to 3G, Kogan Mobile customers will get 4G service by the end of June.

That assumes they have 4G-capable equipment and are in an area with 4G coverage, but "4G coverage is available in all major metro locations and selected regional areas across Australia," according to Kogan.com executive director David Shafer.

The 4G upgrade applies to new and existing customers.

One of the ways that the mobile carriers - Telstra, Optus and Vodafone - have distinguished their own products from those of MVNOs has been to restrict the latter's access to the fastest services. But that has been changing: for example, Amaysim already uses the Optus 4G Plus network.

"Kogan Mobile has become so popular because of its great value," said Shafer.

"But we know Aussies want fast mobile speeds. Enabling 4G is part of our plan to continuously improve the value consumers receive from Kogan Mobile.

"No matter how you use your phone, Kogan Mobile has a deal for everyone - and now our low prices come with access to blistering fast 4G data speeds.

"Vodafone has invested billions into their network in recent years, and being able to bring its fast 4G speeds to Kogan Mobile customers will make our prepaid options even more attractive."

Kogan Mobile's plans start at $16.95 for unlimited standard calls and SMSes plus 1GB of data for 30 days. Increasing that to 3GB of data costs $29.95 ($9 until 5pm AEST on 29 April), or 5GB is available for $36.95 ($11 until 5pm AEST on 29 April).

All three plans are also offered with 90 or 365 day expiry (with data limits applied every 30 days) which further reduce the cost.

A 2GB/30-day data pack can be purchased for use with tablets and other devices, or used to top-up the data available on a phone.

All plans are for personal use only.
