Google first announced the changes on Monday through a Google+ post, which explained the company would be offering Explorers who purchased Glass before Monday a one-time option to exchange their current device for the upgraded version.
Google didn't say exactly when the new devices will be available, but did confirm it would notify Explorers in November with the next steps for the swap program.

Google also said its Explorers can also switch to a different colored Glass during the one-time swap, and that they would have 60 days to register for a swap once the program opens.
Explorers are effectively Google Glass' beta testers, and anyone interested can sign up at the dedicated page here. Google also said it would be adding more ways for Explorers to join the program, and that over the next few weeks current Explorers can invite up to three people to join the program.
