2013 Porsche range takes SUNA traffic feed

By

Yet another vehicle brand - this time the pricy Porsche - is joining the SUNA Traffic Channel bandwagon. SUNA provides live traffic information to GPS navigation units.

Live traffic information from Intelematics Australia's SUNA Traffic Channel will be available on the satnav system in all 2013 Porsches.

First to gain the new feature is the new 911, but but it will also be included in Boxter, Cayman, Cayenne and Panameras built after June 2012.

"Live SUNA Traffic Updates through the in-dash Porsche Communication Management system provides motorists with fast route calculations and a choice of three alternative routes which take into account road conditions such as traffic congestion and delays," said Porsche Cars Australia public relations manager Paul Ellis.

The SUNA system works by analysing a range of data from sources including traffic lights, traffic cameras and probe vehicles.

The results are then transmitted as a signal piggybacked on commercial radio broadcasts so they can be processed by compatible GPS equipment. It is also offered via the Internet.

Intelematics Australia CEO Adam Game said "We are delighted to be providing live traffic information to Porsche customers in Australia, and for SUNA Traffic Channel to be partnering with one of the most prestigious vehicle manufacturers in the world."
