Any narrative about monopoly practices is deemed a threat by Google because it has just had to give in to the European Union on a big case, according to Barry Lynn, a former employee of the New America Foundation think-tank who lost his job recently after he criticised the search giant.

A former writer for Forbes claims Google used its power to force her to kill a story that was critical of the search behemoth's monopolistic practices six years ago.

The New America Foundation, a think-tank which received large infusions of funds from Google, sacked the head of its Open Markets group after he cheered the European Union for hitting the search firm with a fine of US$2.7 billion in June.
